CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Beopar Mandal on Friday alleged that poor, delayed response and lack of required fire-fighting equipment of the fire department led to loss of lives in Thursday’s blaze in Sector 22.
Saying had there been a quicker response and suitable gadgets with the fire- fighters, the four lives could have been saved. The traders were especially sore over inadequate water facility for the fire engines during the first 45 minutes.
The Traders’ Association and Chandigarh Beopar Mandal have initiated efforts to compensate the families of the deceased workers.
Many trader leaders of the city and prominent political leaders namely BJP’s Satyapal Jain, former mayor Pradeep Chabhra, Arvind Jain, who promised financial help from Sector 22 market, MP Kohli, chairman, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Purshotam Mahajan and Joginder Singh Sahwney, visited the site. BSP leader Harmohan Dhawan had visited the spot on Thursday. Later a CBM delegation met DC RK Rao.
