Electoral battle shifts to the blogosphere

Apr 24, 2009 Chandigarh: New-age communication techniques have made inroads into canvassing methods as well — the latest addition to the arsenal is blogging.
To actively woo the youth, the candidates have taken to posting regular updates of their views on various issues — discussions range from the Rent Act to the sitcom Friends — on the Internet.
On the flip side, the candidates too get ample feedback on what the electorate wants.
Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal’s blog (pawanbansalforchd.com) airs his opinion on alternate career options and opportunities for the youth, luxury brands as well as the launch of Nano while BJP candidate Satya Pal Jain (blog.satyapaljain.com) puts across his views on education, additional storeys in all buildings and the introduction of Metro services in the city.
Residents are also free to express diverse views on all issues under the sun. A resident advocates that brain drain from the city be stemmed by ensuring that lucrative jobs are available in the city.
The traffic problem and the need for more parking spaces is another issue of debate. “I face a lot of problems while commuting in the city. The road dividing Sectors 35 and 22 is mostly packed. I think the advent of the Metro will ease the situation and make Chandigarh pollution free,” comments a blogger Richa.
Improving tourism, preventing illegal construction around the Sukhna Lake and bringing unutilised land in IT Park under good use are also on the priority list of the bloggers.
The youngsters, not satisfied by just the candidates’ comments also want to know the logic behind their views and how they plan to achieve their promise.
The famous tagline of Friends “I’ll be there for you” just took on a new meaning for the youth.

Anti people policies of Congress responsible for Auto-strike, peoples harassment: Jain

S.P.Pandey,Chandigarh, April 16 : BJP candidate for Chandigarh Lok Sabha Constituency Mr Satya Pal Jain today held Congress leaders including the local MP responsible for the ongoing auto-rickshaw strike in Chandigarh Panchkula Mohali and said those who talk of development have neglected the need of good transport policies in the tri-city. He said the anti people policies of the Congress party and Congress leadership are responsible for the ongoing auto strike which has caused a great deal of harassment to the people, especially the school going children and office-goers.
During his padyatras in Maloya and Sector 20 Mr Jain assured people that on coming to power in the centre BJP will ensure that CTU runs environment friendly LPG fuelled buses in the Union territory and tri-city areas. He repeated his commitment to address the long term local transport needs of Chandigarh by providing for Metro, flyovers and underpasses for smooth flow of traffic and more parking facilities for the large and growing number of vehicles in the city.
He said Congress party and its leadership has been a failure on every front during its five years rule at the centre. Referring to the problems faced by Chandigarh Mr Jain said all promises of Congress party candidate during the last Lok Sabha elections remain unfulfilled. Whether it is the Balanced Rent act, or ownership of type 13 houses to occupants, or proper compensation for land to the farmers, or identity cards to footpath workers, or regularisation of houses outside laldora, or regularisation of need based internal changes in the housing board houses, or provision of affordable houses to middle and lower classes in the city or solving problems of rehabilitation colonies ? the Congress MP has not been able to solve any problem.

Jain promises no new tax on Chandigarh citizens

Thursday, 09 April 2009: CHANDIGARH: Bhartiya Janta Party candidate for Chandigarh Parliamentary constituency Satya Pal Jain today criticised the proposal to impose house tax in Chandigarh on the advice of Finance Commission in spite of the fact that Chandigarh Municipal Council has 500 crore rupees in its bank account.
Addressing a press conference here he regretted the fact that Chandigarh Housing Board has a cash balance of Rs 300 crore and Chandigarh MC has Rs 500 crore as fixed deposits in its bank accounts but these funds are not being used for development of Chandigarh. ...
Public funds come from the hard labour of common man and should have been used for development of Chandigarh. The money kept in banks is losing value due to inflation and recession while it should have been used for development of the city. ...
He opposed the proposal to levy another tax in Chandigarh and said on coming to power BJP will not levy any tax on residential buildings. He said Chandigarh does not get any share in the taxes collected in the city while state governments get a fixed share in the taxes collected in their territories as such there is no justification for any new taxes in Chandigarh. ...
He said people of Chandigarh face many problems relating to roads, power and water. In the last ten years no new plan for expansion of railway station or flyover etc has been approved for Chandigarh, in fact even the existing facilities have been reduced. ...

Congress misleading on inflation statistics

S.P.Pandey,Chandigarh, March 22 : Mr Satya Pal Jain, BJP candidate for Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency has, in a statement said that Congress party is trying to mislead people by giving wrong statistics pertaining to inflation. Jain alleged that the statements made by Congress on the issue are baseless and against the facts. “Fact of the matter is that the prices of many of the commodities have gone up by 15% to 20%,” he asserted. Jain told people while addressing various public meetings organised in Sector 22, 24, 32, 40, 48 & Indra Colony, Manimajra.
Criticising bitterly the Congress Party, he said that the law and order situation has deteriorated, terror was let loose and the inflation touched a new high in the congress regime. Ex-servicemen, who spent their lives in the service of the country, have been pushed to wall and they had no choice other than to return their medals. ...
... He promised that he will ensure the construction of fly overs to address the aggravating situation of traffic and multi-story and underground parkings will be made in the City Beautiful. He will initiate the project to bring the Metro by including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and UT governments so that the people of the city and vicinity do not face any problem while commuting to and fro. He said that he will ensure employment-oriented education for the students and UT’s own Selection Board will be set up to provide suitable employment to the youth. ..

CHANDIGARH: The BJP candidate from city for Lok Sabha elections, Satya Pal Jain, has accused the Congress of trying to mislead people by giving out wrong inflation-related statistics. Contrary to what was being claimed, he asserted: “Prices of many commodities have gone up by 15% to 20%.” Jain addressed various public meetings in Sectors 22, 24, 32, 40, 48 and Indira Colony, Manimajra, on Sunday. Criticizing the Congress, the BJP leader said law and order situation had deteriorated, terror had been let loose and inflation had touched a new high during the party’s regime. “Ex-servicemen, who spend their lives in the service of country, were pushed to the wall and had no choice other than returning their medals,” he added.
He rapped the ruling government for ignoring the interests of various sections, adding nothing had been done to create new jobs. Garnering votes for Lal Krishna Advani as the prime minister, he asked those present to defeat the Congress. “BJP-led NDA government will ensure all-round development of the city, and participation of its citizens in decision-making process will be made a permanent feature,” Jain said. He promised to ensure the construction of flyovers, along with multi-storey and underground parking lots to lessen traffic and parking woes.

We will start Metro Rail services in the region: Jain

Chandigarh The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a meeting of its workers at the party office here on Sunday to outline the issues to be taken up during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
BJP candidate from the city, Satya Pal Jain, while addressing party workers said the leaders of the Congress and their ministers hold "conflicting" views on all issues. Jain pointed out that while Congress leaders are crying foul over the functioning of UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd), their central leadership is not taking any decisive action.
"When voted to power, the BJP will start an Inter-State Development Council to focus on the development of the region along with the city. The rail budget presented this year had nothing to offer for the city. We will start Metro Rail services in the region," said Jain while promising to start a daily Shatabdi to-and-from Amritsar, if voted to power.
"The city is reeling under traffic chaos. We will get flyovers constructed. Multi-storey parking lots as well as underground parking will be constructed," he added.
Jain also advocated the institution of a Public Service Commission and Service Selection Board in the city to ensure employment for the youth.

Centre mulls flyover plan

CHANDIGARH, Nov 30: The Union Government is considering the proposal to construct a flyover over the transport chowk, between Sector 26 and 28 of Chandigarh.
This was stated by the local MP Satya Pal Jain, after he received a written reply from the Union Minister of State for Surface Transport, Devendra Pradhan, in response to his question on the issue. Pradhan aid that the flyover was estimated to be constructed at a cost of Rs 19.63 crore, which could take about three years for completion.
