Jain harps on UT security

Times of India
15 Apr 2009: CHANDIGARH: BJP candidate from UT, Satya Pal Jain on Tuesday promised that his party would ensure addition of 3,000 personnel to Chandigarh police and get the 2,000 daily paid employees of police department regularized to improve the law and order scenario.
Addressing a rally in Sector 32 market after inaugurating the party office for Ward 21 (Sectors 32, 46), he said general public, especially women, do not feel secure in the city due to increase in crime. Addressing a gathering of sector residents, Jain reminded them that Congress rule in Chandigarh had brought no development to the city in spite of the fact that Congress MP was a minister in the Centre.
‘‘In fact, even the money available to Chandigarh municipal council from taxes levied by it has not been used for development but kept locked up in banks,’’ he said, adding that the money should have been used for development and making lives of Chandigarh residents easier.
He referred to the problems like traffic, parking, housing, prices and services from the government and said Congress had spent their entire five year term fighting -- with government officers and also amongst themselves.
Jain alleged that the sitting MP could not create even five jobs in the city. ‘‘Kerosene quota for the poor has been reduced, houses have become unaffordable and now Congress leaders are promising affordable houses as if they were in the opposition,’’ he said.
