Jain promises to work for Chandigarh-Lahore rail link

Times of India
2 May 2004, KHARAR: Kharar-born BJP candidate from Chandigarh Satya Pal Jain announced here on Saturday that he would try to initiate Chandigarh-Lahore railway service on the patterns of present Samjhauta Express, if elected.
He was here in connection with a gathering organised by the residents of the township to pledge their support to Jain. Many prominent residents, cutting across party lines and Jain's family members living here were present on the occasion. They promised that they would leave no stone unturned and would contact their relatives and friends in Chandigarh and press them to vote for Jain.
Jain said that his promise of Chandigarh-Lahore rail link would only materialise if the thaw in the Indo-Pak relations continues. He said that the Vajpayee government is trying its best to enhance people-to-people contacts and economic relations with Pakistan. He added that this rail link is also essential as a large number of people of this area have been born and brought up in Pakistan and still want to keep contact with their place of birth.
Recalling his childhood days spent in this township, Jain said that his father late Lal Roop Lal Jain, who sold newspapers here, taught him the lesson of honesty and all his achievements have been due to the firm foundations laid during his childhood days spent in Kharar.
