Chandigarh, January 31: The city unit of the BJP staged a dharna today at Sector 17 Plaza in protest against corruption and anti-people Congress policies.
Addressing workers, city BJP chief Yash Pal Mahajan alleged that the Congress was "an organisation of corrupt people" and it has nothing to do with the welfare of the people. He said that due to the wrong policies of the Congress, the inflation had gone up during the last eight months.
Former MP Satya Pal Jain said it was for the first time in the history of Chandigarh that the Congress has not given representation to any other political party in the Chandigarh Advisory Council just to gag the voice of the Opposition parties. Representation has not been given to the trading class, residents of labour colonies, lawyers, doctors and women in the Advisory Council, he added. Assailing the Central government, the Chandigarh Administration and the Congress-ruled Municipal Corporation, he said that the Congress was trying to hush up all corruption cases involving ex-mayor, its councillors and chairman of the market committee. He demanded a CBI investigation in all these cases.
Jain said that the BJP would launch a campaign at Mandal level in the city against the Congress and ensure participation of the public.
Leaders, including Purshotam Mahajan, Ravi Parkash Kansal, Davesh Moudgil, Shingara Singh, Manjit Kaur, Santosh Rana, Megh Raj Verma, Dr Anwar Ali, Deen Dayal Tripahi, Jagdish Lal Bajaj, Shashi Shankar Tiwari, Manoj Kumar and Jagdish Rohilla, also addressed the dharna.
