A battle between old adversaries

The Hindu
A battle royale is being fought once again between old adversaries for the prestigious Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. In the fray are Congress sitting MP and Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal, BJP candidate and former MP Satya Pal Jain and former Union Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party nominee Harmohan Dhawan.
Mr. Bansal is trying to retain the seat for the fourth time. He won in 1991, lost to Mr. Jain in 1996 and 1998 and won again consecutively in 1999 and 2004.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has also fielded Hafiz Anwar Ul Haq, converting the battle into a multi-cornered contest.
A total of 14 candidates are in the fray including Independents.
The 60-year-old Mr. Bansal is banking on the overall achievements of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre, while his rivals are focusing on local issues and asking what the Minister had done for Chandigarh.
