CHANDIGARH: The BJP candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat from Chandigarh, Satya Pal Jain, on Thursday promised that on coming to power at the Centre his party would allow construction of one additional floor in all residential and commercial structures including bay-shops and booths.
Addressing media persons here, he said this had become necessary as Chandigarh’s population had increased at a very fast rate and housing had not kept pace.
Mr. Jain accused the Congress of neglecting the city’s housing needs and not formulating a comprehensive housing policy for the residents of the City Beautiful. He assured that on coming to power the BJP would draw up a 10-year plan for the growth of the city, which was a Union Territory besides being the State Capital of Haryana and Punjab.
Charging that the “Congress-controlled” Chandigarh Administration had “turned into a property dealer”, he said it was “charging up to Rs.30 lakh for a two-bedroom house”. ...
