Jan 20, 2009,Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named former parliamentarian Satya Pal Jain as its candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from the city. The decision was taken on Monday by the party high command in Delhi.
With the candidature of Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal from the Congress and Harmohan Dhawan from the Bahujan Samaj Party almost certain, the three would be contesting against each other for the fifth time after their earlier face-offs in 1991, 1996, 1998 and 2004.
While Jain and Bansal have won the elections in their past contests, Dhawan was elected from the city in 1989, the years in which both Jain and Bansal did not contest the elections. An elated Jain said the "party workers would be united" in contesting the elections. ...
