Chandigarh, September 27: A national level two-day seminar on 'Law and Technology' kicked off today at the Panjab University. The seminar is being organised by University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) and University Law Students' Association, Panjab University, in association with the Asia Pacific Jurist Association and Department of Technology , UT , Chandigarh . The chief guest for the occasion Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court inaugurated the function at the university auditorium.

     Justice Surya Kant, in his inaugural address, said that when he had joined the legal profession, there were no computers and cyber crimes were unheard of.

भाजपा में शामिल हुए 500 मुस्लिम

Sep 24, चंडीगढ़ - मुस्लिम समुदाय के लगभग 500 लोग मंगलवार को चंडीगढ़ भाजपा में शामिल हुए व पार्टी की सदस्यता ग्रहण की। इस मौके पर भाजपा चंडीगढ़ की अध्यक्ष कमला शर्मा व भाजपा के पूर्व सांसद सत्यपाल जैन ने पार्टी में शामिल होने वाले मुस्लिम समुदाय के लोगों का पटका डालकर स्वागत किया। पार्टी में शामिल होने वाले मुस्लिम समुदाय के लोगों ने कहा कि भाजपा में शामिल होने से पहले वे लोग कांग्रेस पार्टी के साथ जुड़े हुए थे। कांग्रेस पार्टी के अल्पसंख्यक विरोधी नीति के वे कांग्रेस पार्टी छोड़कर भाजपा में शामिल हुए हैं। पार्टी में शामिल होने वालों में मो. खुर्शीद सलमानी, अनवर मुकरम, मो. सकील, मो. शमशाद आदि प्रमुख हैं। पार्टी में शामिल होने लोग भाजपा अल्पसंख्यक मोर्चा के अध्यक्ष मौलाना कासिम और डा. अनवर अली की अगुवाई में भाजपा कार्यालय कमलम में भाजपा के पक्ष में नारे लगाते हुए आए। इन लोगों का स्वागत भाजपा चंडीगढ़ के पदाधिकारियों ने किया।

   इस अवसर पर भाजपा चंडीगढ़ की अध्यक्ष कमला शर्मा ने कहा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी किसी धर्म या समुदाय के खिलाफ नहीं है। इस पार्टी द्वारा सभी समुदाय के लोगों का समग्र विकास करने के लिए सतत प्रयास किया जाता है। इस मौके पर भाजपा के पूर्व सांसद सत्यपाल जैन ने कहा कि मुस्लिम समुदाय का आजादी के बाद सबसे अधिक कांग्रेस पार्टी ने ही शोषण किया है।

BJP seeks more security

The Chandigarh unit of BJP has urged the Union Home Ministry to take immediate steps for ensuring safety and security of residents in view of the Terror threats and serial blasts. In a statement issued on Monday, president of the Chandigarh unit Kamla Sharma and former MP Satya Pal Jain stressed that despite numerous warnings of terror attacks in Delhi, the Centre did not take adequate steps in time.

     "The Government should not repeat the mistake and act in time to prevent such mishaps in future," she said. The leaders added that crime in the city is escalating. There has been an increase in the number of thefts, snatchings and murder cases. A delegation of BJP will meet the UT Administrator on Tuesday and submit a memorandum listing their concerns.

The Centre does not need the approval of the state government for granting central university status to PU. Since Chandigarh is a Union Territory, it is ruled by the Centre. The Congress government is merely politicising the issue. It shows its unwillingness to grant central status to the university. They have now put the ball in Punjab government's court. We are in favour of central status for the university, as it would bring in a number of benefits for the teachers and the students.
