राष्‍ट्रपति चुनाव: मतगणना शुरू

21 जुलाई 2007, नई दिल्ली। देश के 13वें राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए आज यहां संसद भवन में कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच मतों की गिनती का काम शुरू हो गया।

     राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए 19 जुलाई को मतदान हुआ था और इसमें संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन (संप्रग) तथा वाम दलों की उम्मीदवार प्रतिभा पाटिल तथा राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबन्धन (राजग) समर्थित निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार उपराष्ट्रपति भैरोसिंह शेखावत के बीच कड़ा मुकाबला है। मतों की गिनती संसद भवन के कमरा नम्बर 63 में की जा रही है।

     मत पत्रों को श्रीमती पाटिल के अधिकृत चुनाव एजेंट संसदीय कार्यमंत्री प्रिय रंजन दासमुंशी और शेखावत के चुनाव एजेंट सत्यपाल जैन की मौजूदगी में खोला गया। मतगणना की पूरी प्रक्रिया अपरान्ह दो बजे तक समाप्त हो जाने की उम्मीद है।

     राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के रिटर्निंग आफिसर लोकसभा के महासचिव पीडीटी आचारी ने बताया कि 88.5 प्रतिशत सांसदों और 91 फीसदी विधायकों ने अपने मताधिकार का इस्तेमाल किया है।

एनडीए ने कमर कसी, मतदान कल

नई दिल्ली। आगामी बृहस्पतिवार को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए एनडीए ने कमर कस ली है। पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने एनडीए सांसदों से कहा कि देश इस वक्त संकट से गुजर रहा है। इसलिए सभी सदस्यों की जिम्मेदारी है कि वे देश को संकट से उबारने में जुट जाएं।

     श्री वाजपेयी आज संसदीय सौंध में एनडीए सांसदों की बैठक को संबोधित कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि देश में फिर से अधिनायकवादी ताकतें सिर उठा रही हैं। हमें उनका डटकर मुकाबला करना है। उन्होंने सदस्यों को आपातकाल की याद दिलाई और कहा कि उस वक्त के राष्ट्रपति ने इंदिरा गांधी से यह भी नहीं पूछा था कि आपातकाल लगाने के फैसले पर कैबिनेट ने मुहर लगा दी है या नहीं। ...

       बैठक के बाद सुषमा स्वराज ने डिनर दिया। कल सभी सदस्यों को श्री वाजपेयी रात्रि भोज पर आमंत्रित कर रहे हैं। भैरों सिंह शेखावत भी कल भोज में शामिल होंगे। बैठक को लालकृष्ण आडवाणी और सुषमा स्वराज ने भी संबोधित किया। बैठक में सुषमा स्वराज और सतपाल जैन ने सदस्यों को वोट डालने का तरीका सिखाया।

     स्पष्टीकरण का स्वागत : एनडीए ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव की बाबत चुनाव आयोग के स्पष्टीकरण का स्वागत किया है। एनडीए की तरफ से लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने कहा कि आयोग ने समय पर स्पष्टीकरण देकर विधायकों और सांसदों में बना भ्रम दूर कर दिया है।

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhwat has appointed Mr Satya Pal Jain, a noted lawyer and a former MP, as his 'Authorised Election Representative' for the upcoming presidential polls.

Mr Shekhwat, who is contesting as an Independent candidate backed by the NDA, sent his communication to the Lok Sabha Secretary General, the Returning Officer for the presidential elections, informing him about the appointment.

Mr Jain, a senior advocate by profession and an expert on Constitutional and election laws, is also a member of the National Executive of the BJP. He has been a member of the Lok Sabha twice from Chandigarh Parliamentary constituency and was also head of the Legal of the BJP for a decade before he was made the incharge of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the party.

Mr Jain has been asked by the BJP to remain in Delhi till the elections are over, a release said.

Shimla, July 7: Shimla Chief Judicial Magistrate Yashwant Chogal today reserved its order on an application moved by Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab, and Moti Lal Vohra, treasurer of the Indian National Congress, seeking exemption from appearing personally in the court in connection with a criminal case of defamation filed by P.K. Dhumal, former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. ...

     ... Senior advocate Satya Pal Jain, along with Sandeep Kaushik, who appeared for the complainant, opposed the application and said under the law, the person was required to appear personally to reply to the charges against him. There was no justification in deviating from the law in the present case.

     After hearing both parties, the judge reserved the orders and fixed July 28 for pronouncing the order on the application. ...

Anti-Patil plea in SC was 'Cong sponsored': BJP

NEW DELHI, JUL 3 (PTI): The BJP today alleged that the petition challenging the nomination of UPA-Left presidential candidate Pratibha Patil and dismissed by the Supreme Court was a "Congress-sponsored" litigation.

   "It had to be dismissed. It was a Congress-sponsored petition," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.

   He claimed it was filed so as to give the Congress an opportunity to discredit the BJP's campaign against her.
