Sidhu surrenders, sent to Patiala jail

CHANDIGARH, JANUARY 11: It was a nerve-racking wait of nearly one-and-half hour for former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had come to surrender in the Court of UT Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) today. Although the formalities were done in no time, the former cricketer and his co-accused Rupinder Sandhu, who have been convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, had to wait for more than an hour for the Punjab Police to take them to Patiala jail.

Accompanied by Satpal Jain, former MP, and a large number of fans, Sidhu maintained his composure as the wait outside the court of CJM stretched to over an hour.

"The entire nation is with me in my hour of crisis. Thanks to those who have prayed for me and prayers for those who have criticised me. I have completely surrendered before the majesty of law and am ready for any consequences", he beamed as mediapersons continued to rain questions on him. ...

सुप्रीम कोर्ट में अपील पर सुनवाई आज

चंडीगढ़। (एजेंसियां)। गैर इरादतन हत्या के मामले में दोषी ठहराए गए पूर्व क्रिकेटर एवं पूर्व भाजपा सांसद नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू (शैरी) ने आज एक स्थानीय अदालत के सामने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया जिसके बाद उन्हें पटियाला में न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया। उच्च्तम न्यायालय सिद्धू की जमानत याचिका पर कल सुनवाई करेगा। उन्होंने पंजाब एवं हरियाण हाईकोर्ट द्वारा गैर इरादतन हत्या के मामले में दोषी ठहराए जाने पर सुनाई गई तीन साल की कैद की सजा को चुनौती दी है।

     क्रिकेट से सियासत की दुनिया में पहुंचे सिद्धू ने आज मुख्य न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट के समक्ष आत्मसमर्पण किया। गैर इदातन हत्या के मामले में दोषसिद्धि के निचली अदालत के फैसले के खिलाफ सुप्रीम कोर्ट में दायर उनकी याचिका पर कल सुनवाई होनी है। मुख्य न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट वाई एस राठौर ने पूर्व भाजपा सांसद और उनके मित्र रूपिंदर सिंह सिद्धू को जेल भेजने का आदेश दिया।...

     ...सिद्धू के वकील और वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता सत्य पाल जैन ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट में किसी तकनीकी दिक्कत आने से बचने के लिए सिद्धू ने आत्मसमर्पण करने का फैसला किया। हाई कोर्ट में पेश अर्जी में सिद्धू ने कहा कि यह मामला अब सुप्रीम कोर्ट में है। इसलिए वह आत्मसमर्पण करना चाहते हैं। अदालत ने इससे पहले सिद्धू की सजा की तामील 31 जनवरी तक स्थगित कर दी थी। सिद्धू जब आत्मसमर्पण के लिए चले तो उनके साथ उनके साथ काफी समर्थक थे। पर उन्हें हाई कोर्ट में नहीं घुसने दिया।

BJP leader meets protesting teachers

Chandigarh, January 7: Former Member of Parliament and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader, Mr Satya Pal Jain, today visited the retrenched daily wage computer teachers from Punjab who were protesting outside the office of the Director General, School Education, Punjab, in Sector 34.

     Mr Jain extended his full support to the protesting members of the Substitute Computer Teachers Union (SCTU), Punjab.

     Meanwhile, the condition of five teachers on relay fast further worsened. Three more teachers, Narinder Singh of Nabha, Rajvinder Singh of Taran, and Kuldeep Singh of Mansa, today joined the fast.
