Concern over rising crime in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Senior BJP leader and former Chandigarh MP, Satya Pal Jain, on Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the City Beautiful. Criticising the brutal murder of retired Air Force officer, T.P. Singh, his wife and sister in their house in Sector 34 here, he said that the incidents of theft, murder and dacoity were becoming a daily occurrence.
In a statement, Mr. Jain said that the late T.P. Singh was an honest and sincere officer who devoted his whole life to the security of the nation. "If such an incident can happen to such a brilliant officer in his own house, one can imagine the fate of an ordinary and common man. This gruesome incident is a slur on the face of the powers that be who are ruling Chandigarh at this moment,'' he added. ...

CHANDIGARH, FEBRUARY 18: THE UT BJP today accused the UPA government at the Centre of ignoring city's development issues and forgetting the promises that Congress had made during the last Parliamentary and MC polls.
Large-scale demolitions, rising prices of essential commodities and the fast deteriorating law and order situation are becoming a way of life in Chandigarh, said former MP and BJP's national executive member Satya Pal Jain.
Addressing a press conference, he said the Congress was not fulfilling its promise of regularising need-based internal changes in houses and stopping the demolitions. Jain demanded that the demolitions of residential houses be stopped and the notices issued to thousands of city residents be immediately withdrawn. ...

Frisking Issue: BJP demands apology

CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday condemned the frisking of spiritual guru Asa Ram Bapu at the Ahmedabad Airport on Monday and demanded an apology from the Centre.
Former BJP MP Satya Pal Jain and a member of the national executive committee of the party termed the incident as of "highly humiliating nature.
Jain said that Sant Asa Ram Bapu was not any ordinary personality, crores of people in the whole world worshiped him and his followers were spread through out the world.
"Therefore not only the private airways, but the Union government should have apologised to him for this most unfortunate incident", he said, in a statement issued here of Tuesday.
Jain urged the Central Government to take all necessary steps to stop these type of shameless incidents and ensure proper respect and courtesies to all top Indian religious leaders like Sant Asa Ram Bapu.

Jain condemns killings

Chandigarh, February 8: Questioning the law and order situation in the city, Mr Satya Pal Jain, former MP and member of the national executive of the BJP, today condemned the murder of T.P. Singh, retired Air Force officer and his two family members, at their residence in Sector 34 here.
In a statement today, Mr Jain stated that such 'shocking' incidents had now become a part of everyday life.

Senate decides to reconstitute standing committee on exam reforms

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 5: Panjab University senate today decided to reconstitute the standing committee on examination reforms, following a suggestion made by senator Satya Pal Jain, a former Chandigarh MP.
Stating that the J.C. Bansal Committee report that had recommended changes in the PU examination system, would be implemented before April, 2006, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof K.N. Pathak, pointed out that majority of the problems would be solved following networked computerisation of the examination system as had been suggested by the committee. ...
