Telecom firm throws her a line of hope in red-tape jungle

CHANDIGARH OCTOBER 4: LIKE any other girl her age, 26-year-old Mamta is full of confidence and dreams - despite the crippling reality that she has lost both her legs and her right hand in a bomb explosion in Aligarh 14 years back. What has shaken her the most, is the indifference shown by the UT's politicians and the Administration to her years of prayers for a government job or a shop from the handicapped quota.
So when a telecom company and a local voluntary organisation extended a helping hand, this poor girl at Manimajra saw a ray of hope in a society she thought was choking with red-tapism and callousness. HFCL Infotech Ltd, owners of the Connect brand of telecom services, on Tuesday installed an STD-PCO at Mamta's house in New Indira Colony. Voluntary organisation 'The Roses' helped in the initiative and the Connect STD-PCO was inaugurated by former Chandigarh MP Satya Pal Jain. ...
