Sec 15 traders' protest has police hurrying to pacify

Shops down shutters against arrest of one shopkeeper and his son.

Chandigarh, April 25: THE SHOPKEEPERS of Sectors 15-C and D markets today downed their shutters in protest against the arrest of tenant shopkeeper Vijay Mohan and his son Lovely yesterday.
The annoyed shopkeepers blocked the road and raised slogans against the Chandigarh Police alleging they were framing up the shopkeeper and his son in a false case. The strength of the protest forced senior police officers to visit the market. ...

It was BJP's day of protests against Central govt

Chandigarh, April 24: The local unit of the Scheuled Caste Morcha of the BJP today organised a protest rally at the roundabout of Sectors 55 and 62 against the alleged anti-people policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and against local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Addressing the gathering, former MP Satya Pal Jain said the price of daily-use items had gone up many times during the last 10 months. The law and order situation during the Congress rule had worsened and no step had been taken to generate employment as it promised before the Lok Sabha election, he added.
The party workers also raised slogans against Pawan Kumar Bansal for not allowing SCs to show their resentment during the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit to Chandigarh. They also blamed Bansal for the delay in the issuance of SC certificates to the children of SCs.

Chandigarh, April 23: EX-MP and senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain has lashed Congress leaders for levelling "baseless" allegations against officers of the UT Administration. He said the leaders are just doing it to "hide their own failures."

Ex-MP warns of 'direct action' over capitation fee

Chandigarh, April 2: EX-MP Satya Pal Jain today warned the UT Administration of direct action if private schools in the city are not stopped from charging capitation fee at the time of admission before April 16.
   Addressing mediapersons here, Jain said that the city's BJP unit will continue its campaign till its demands are accepted by the administration. The BJP has demanded reservation of 25 per cent seats for children from poor families in private schools as per the judgment of Punjab and Haryana High Court, end of capitation fee and parity in tuition fee between private and government schools. ...

Dream for poor has few takers, many surprises

Chandigarh, April 3: THE plan to raise a township for over 80,000 slum-dwellers has taken even top UT officials by surprise besides inviting criticism from various quarters.
   According to sources, even the UT Advisory Council did not have knowledge of the final plan. The officials said the original plan submitted by the sub-groups of the Council envisaged just shifting slum-dwellers to different areas in the periphery and there was no plan for township and houses. ...
