BJP blames Congress for lack of power

Chandigarh Newsline
Chandigarh, Sept 10: Apart from the power cuts imposed by the Congress-led Chandigarh Administration, unscheduled power cuts have also been imposed on the people of Chandigarh, because of which they are feeling harassed. In a statement, local BJP chief Yash Pal Mahajan has severely criticised the Congress-led administration and said that local MP Pawan Bansal has failed miserably at protecting the interests of city residents. Chandigarh has a quota of 218 MW of electricity whereas the city is being provided only 120 MW, Mahajan claimed. He claimed that when Satya Pal Jain was MP and the BJP-led government was at the Centre, he got the proposal of setting up a 200 MW Power Station at Manimajra, but Bansal did not even try to get this power station functional since he was elected MP. Mahajan has demanded that the Congress government at the Centre provide electricity to residential and commercial consumers according to their actual need at reasonable rates.

Chandigarh, September 8: To protest against the police lathicharge on lawyers in Lucknow, advocates of district courts today sat on a dharna from 10 am to 12 pm. However, work at court was not affected. As a show of protest, the advocates also wore red badges throughout the day.
A two-hour protest was also observed by the members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar association at the High Court today. Secretary of the BJP legal cell Deepak Balyan said it was absolutely uncalled for on the part of the police to resort to such an action against the lawyers. "This is no way to operate. There are other ways to resolve a problem or a situation. If one pillar of democracy goes against another, the result would be chaos. This should not happen again," he said condemning the incident.
The lawyers at the High Court wore red badges to protest against the police action. They gathered at a tent put up in the court premises and sat there for about two hours. Satya Pal Jain, former MP from Chandigarh also visited the tent to express solidarity with the lawyers. ...
