Chandigarh, May 8: Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister, today gave his blessings to Mr Satya Pal Jain, the local BJP candidate for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, here today. Mr Vajpayee had stopped briefly at the airport around 11.25 am before he boarded a helicopter for a flight to Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) where he was to address an election rally.
Justice O.P. Verma and Babu Parmanand, Governors of Punjab and Haryana, respectively, were present at the venue to welcome the Prime Minister. Also present was Mr Yash Pal Mahajan, president of the local unit of the BJP.
Mr Vajpayee had a brief interaction with Mr Jain. A party press note said Mr Vajpayee communicated to Mr Jain that the National Democratic Alliance was comfortably placed in forming the government after the elections. He stayed at the airport for about 15 minutes.
