6 Dec '92 most depressing day of my life: Advani

Times of India
11 Apr 2001, NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister L K Advani on Monday said impatient kar sevaks, believing that leaders of the Ayodhya movement would not be able to get the Ram temple built by due process of law, took a "wrongful course" on 6 December 1992, "one of the most depressing days of my life".
Finally making an appearance before the Liberhan Commission probing the demolition of the Babri Masjid, Advani said the demolition may not have taken place had the Centre approached the Allahabad High Court to seek an early verdict on the issue of acquisition of land adjoining the disputed area.
But with the Centre not inclined to do so, angry kar sevaks chose not to wait for the due process of law and brought down the mosque. Had the anger welling up in them been allowed a "smooth and peaceful outlet through kar seva" it would not have "exploded" on December 6, he said. ...
... Advani's counsel Satya Pal Jain in an application made to the commission sought to clarify whether a notice issued to him had been issued in his personal capacity or as president of the BJP, a post he held then.
The application said the notice mentioned material which could adversely affect the reputation of Advani, but what it was had not been supplied to him.
Jain also pleaded that with criminal proceedings pending against Advani in Lucknow on almost the same issues, he could not be compelled to disclose his defence in the case as it could adversely affect his case before the criminal trial court.

DD centre to be inaugurated on April 28

Chandigarh Tribune
Chandigarh, April 6: After a long wait, the local Doordarshan Kendra will finally be inaugurated on April 28.
Announcing this at a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club here today, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Sushma Swaraj, said the inauguration had been delayed because sufficient staff had not been posted at the centre yet. "I want it to be operational the next day of the inauguration," she quipped.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone of the kendra was laid by Ms Swaraj in 1998. The kendra is ready and awaiting inauguration for quite some time now.
In fact, a former MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, during whose tenure the foundation stone was laid, had issued written statements several times saying that the kendra would be inaugurated soon. In one such statement, he had stated that it would be inaugurated by Ms Swaraj in the "first week of April". ...

Employees' leaders submit memo to Advani

Chandigarh Tribune
Chandigarh, April 2: A delegation of various leaders of employees' organisations of Chandigarh, led by Mr Satya Pal Jain, a former MP, met the Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, in Delhi yesterday and submitted him a memorandum.
The memorandum demanded the immediate amendment in the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, as applicable to Chandigarh, for providing that those employees of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, who were transferred to the corporation from the Chandigarh Administration, be treated on deputation.
The delegation informed Mr Advani that on December 15,1998, he as the Home Minister, in a reply to a question put up Mr Jain, had stated in Parliament in writing that the government had decided to treat the employees of the Administration deemed on deputation to the civic body. ...
... Meanwhile, Mr Jain urged the Administration to accept the pending demands of the "rehriwalas" and "phariwalas". Mr Jain, who was speaking at a "Bhagwati Jagran" organised by the Sabzi Mandi Rehri Workers Union at the Sector 26 Sabzi Mandi last night, said "rehri" and "phari" markets were an integral part of the city and provided an alternative to the lower and middle class shoppers.
