NEW DELHI,Apr 23: BJP MP from Chandigarh Satya Pal Jain has petitioned Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi for the disqualification of former National Conference MP Saifuddin Soz under the Anti-Defection Act.
Mr Jain, also a lawyer, in his ‘formal petition said Mr Soz had violated the whip issued by the National Conference. The BJP leader said there was neither any split in the NC on the issue nor had he sought written permission from his party’s president and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah to defy the whip. He had been expelled from the party. He could not seek protection under the Tenth Schedule by saying that since he constituted one-third of the party strength in the Lok Sabha, he had every right to ignore the party whip, Mr Jain said.(UNI)
