Jain gives Rs 8 lakh grant to PU cell

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — The local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, today announced a special grant of Rs 8 lakh out of his Local Area Development Fund for the construction of a grievances cell at Panjab University.
Mr Jain was the chief guest at the annual function of the university to welcome the freshers. He assured them that he would divert more amount to the university if there were good proposals.
The present proposal was forwarded to him by the President of Panjab University Campus Students Council Dayal Pratap Singh Randhawa who had asked for Rs 7.27 lakh for creating more facilities at the Students Centre. ...

Power for 1100 houses outside 'lal dora'

Chandigarh, Nov 20 - The Chandigarh Administration will provide power connections to 1100 houses built outside the lal dora in various villages of the Union Territory by December end. Work on the project, after initial preparations will begin in the coming days.
This was announced by Mr Jagdish Sagar, Adviser to the Union Territory Administrator at a meeting of members of the Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Sarpanches of 15 villages at the UT Guest House here today. Mr Satya Pal Jain, MP, was also present there.
Talking to The Tribune after the meeting Mr Jain and Sarpanches of various villages said that basic amenities would be provided to 1800 houses in two phases. As the erecting of power lines and ensuring power supply was possible in a short time, it had been decided that work in this context would begin in the first phase. Laying of water supply lines and sewerage would also be taken up later on.
Same facilities would be provided to rest of the houses in second phase.
Other issues discussed at the meeting pertained to revising the price of acquisition of land and reviving the scheme to provide houses to those whose land had been acquired. On this issue, the administration assured that the rates would be revised and the scheme would also be revived. The scheme had been stopped for the past many years. ...

Another superfast Delhi-Chandigarh train demanded

NEW DELHI, Nov 17 — Chandigarh MP, Satya Pal Jain, today urged the Rail Ministry to start another super-fast train from Delhi to Chandigarh comprising second class coaches.
Mr Jain, who met the Minister of State for Railways, Mr Ram Naik here said such a train would provide inexpensive travel facilities for passengers. He also discussed other related issues.
In a statement here, Mr Jain said he requested the Minister to start work on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail line approved earlier. He also requested that work to improve Chandigarh railway station be speeded up.

1800 houses outside 'lal dora' to get power connection

CHANDIGARH, Nov 11 - Around 1800 houses that have been built outside the "lal dora" of the villages in Chandigarh are to be provided with regular power and water connections. A survey in this regard was complete, said the local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, while inaugurating the 10-day-long de-addiction camp at Palsora village here today.
He, however, urged people not to construct new houses without taking permission from the Chandigarh Administration. Talking about addicts, he said they could be treated through persuasion and love. He said prohibition failed in Haryana and Andhra Pradesh because social organisations did not participate in it wholeheartedly. Mr Jain appreciated the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for organising the camp in a village, thus helping in treating the patients under a cordial atmosphere. ...

Nip illegal house building at 'first stage'

CHANDIGARH, Nov 5 - The local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, has urged the Chandigarh Administration to take a decision regarding the grant of power and water connections to all those who have constructed houses outside the "lal dora" of various villages of the union territory. Mr Jain said here today that he had made this demand during his meeting with the Adviser to the Administrator, Mr Jagdish Sagar, here yesterday.
Mr Jain impressed upon the Adviser that instead of demolishing old or new structures, the efforts of the Administration should be to stop "illegal constructions" at the initial stage. No one should be allowed to construct any house or structure "illegally". ...
... Mr Jain also wanted that all places of worship, including temples, gurdwaras and mosques, who had been regularised should be granted power and water connections. A survey has already been conducted in this regard, he added. ...

Chhibber lays stone for second ISBT

CHANDIGARH, Nov 3 - The foundation stone of the Inter State Bus Terminus(ISBT) in Sector 43 was laid by the Administrator, Lieut. Gen B K N Chhibber here today.
... He thanked the local MP for giving Rs 6 lakh for the construction of a permanent stage with green rooms in Sector 17.
Mr Satya Pal Jain, MP, said work on the Chandigarh- Morinda stretch of the Chandigarh -Ludhiana rail line would be started soon as he had received a letter to this effect from the Railway Minister. Similarly, more flights would stop over at the city for the convenience of the residents.
He asked the administration to construct a rest room for coolies in the present terminus for which he was ready to contribute money from the Local Area MP Development Fund. ...
